Ho Chi Minh City launches urban renewal project for historic Mả Lạng area and Gà - Gạo market

Ho Chi Minh City has officially launched a significant urban renewal project targeting the historic Mả Lạng area and the Gà - Gạo market. This initiative, which has been a long-term aspiration for the city, aims to dramatically improve the living conditions for thousands of residents in a district that has suffered from prolonged degradation.

The project is distinguished by its focus on not-for-profit development, with a primary goal of providing on-site resettlement for the local population. Khang Dien Investment and Trading JSC is the developer, undertaking the project through a public-private partnership model with a build-transfer (BT) contract. This approach underscores a commitment to community welfare over commercial gain.

City Party Secretary Trần Lưu Quang, who has been a strong advocate for addressing the area's issues, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. He expressed emotion upon viewing a video depicting the residents' lives in Mả Lạng and the Gà - Gạo market, highlighting the human aspect of the renewal. The project will involve upgrading technical and social infrastructure and constructing new housing to facilitate local relocation.

Khang Dien's Chairwoman, Mai Trần Thanh Trang, pledged to mobilize the best resources to ensure the project's success. She emphasized that the development is more than just construction; it carries humanitarian value and aims to create a high-quality, convenient residential area that respects the community's history while ushering in a better future. The project will address housing issues, including many small dwellings, and improve the urban aesthetic.
