Ho Chi Minh City police dismantle firecracker trafficking ring, arrest four

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have cracked down on a significant illegal firecracker trafficking network, arresting four people and seizing over 621 kilograms of contraband. The operation, led by the Economic Police Department, targeted a ring involved in the illicit trade and storage of explosive devices.

The arrests followed an investigation that culminated on August 7th when police intercepted a truck at a parking lot in Binh Tri Dong Ward. During the inspection, officers discovered 164 boxes suspected to be firecrackers. A subsequent search of a warehouse at the same location uncovered an additional 180 boxes, bringing the total seized amount to 344 boxes, weighing 621.5 kilograms.

Initial investigations revealed that the arrested suspects acted as intermediaries in the supply chain. One suspect allegedly purchased the firecrackers from an individual in Cambodia via a Zalo account, intending to resell them at a profit. Another suspect rented warehouse space to store the contraband before distribution.

Police have charged three individuals with "trading in prohibited goods" and one with "storing prohibited goods." The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to identify all members of the network and trace the origin of the illegal firecrackers. Authorities are urging the public not to engage in the purchase, transport, or storage of illegal fireworks and to report any suspicious activities.
