Bank security guard arrested for killing colleague over late shift

A disagreement over a late shift has resulted in a death and an arrest in Vietnam's Vĩnh Long province. Police have charged Đinh Văn Luyến, 45, with murder after he allegedly beat his colleague to death with a chain.

The incident occurred on August 16 when Luyến arrived about 20 minutes late to begin his shift at a bank branch. His colleague, T.T.N., 49, who was waiting to hand over the shift, reprimanded Luyến. Luyến explained his lateness was due to a lack of gasoline and had informed his supervisor, but Mr. N. continued to complain.

The argument escalated, and Luyến retrieved a metal chain from his motorcycle, using it to strike Mr. N. on the head and back of the neck. Mr. N. lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital by Luyến and other bystanders. Luyến subsequently turned himself in to the police.

Mr. N. succumbed to his injuries, diagnosed as severe head trauma, on August 18. The Vĩnh Long Provincial Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
