Ho Chi Minh City Proposes 6-Fold Expansion of Le Van Luong Street for Nearly $10 Trillion VND

Ho Chi Minh City is considering a significant expansion of Le Van Luong street, a key artery in the southern region. The proposal involves widening the road from its current 6-8 meters to 30-40 meters, with an estimated cost of nearly 9.9 trillion VND. This ambitious project aims to alleviate chronic traffic jams and flooding issues that plague the area.

The existing street, over 10 kilometers long, is characterized by high population density and closely packed residential and commercial buildings. Sidewalk encroachment further exacerbates traffic difficulties. The street also crosses four bridges, some of which are narrow and in disrepair, adding to the logistical challenges.

If approved, the project could commence in 2027 and be completed by 2029. The cost includes substantial compensation and land clearance fees, exceeding 6.5 trillion VND. The city's Department of Construction is currently preparing feasibility studies for the expansion, which would extend from Nguyen Van Linh street to the Rach Doi bridge, connecting towards Tay Ninh province.
