Ho Chi Minh City to Expand To Huu Street to Seven Lanes in Thu Thiem

Ho Chi Minh City plans to expand To Huu Street in the Thu Thiem urban area from four to seven lanes. The upgrade targets the section between Mai Chi Tho and Nguyen Co Thach streets. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity to the city's new administrative center and central square.

The expansion is a key component of the broader project for the Central Square and Administrative Center of Ho Chi Minh City in Thu Thiem. The overall development covers approximately 46.7 hectares and includes the square, administrative buildings, and a convention center, with an estimated investment of nearly 30 trillion Vietnamese dong (approximately $1.2 billion USD) under a build-transfer contract.

The administrative center itself will occupy about 7.84 hectares along To Huu Street. It is designed to accommodate around 6,000 civil servants and serve thousands of citizens daily for administrative procedures and cultural activities. The project also involves adjusting the design elevation of the elevated section of R1 Street (Tran Bach Dang Street) to align with the central square's planning.

Saigon Sun Investment and Development Company Limited is tasked with incorporating the expansion plan into its project documentation and submitting a feasibility study. The Department of Construction, in coordination with the Department of Planning and Architecture, will review the plan's compliance with the overall urban planning, technical infrastructure, and landscape before approval. The Thu Thiem New Urban Area aims for substantial completion by 2030.
