Home Affairs Minister: Appreciating High-Performing Local Governments Balances Oversight

Indonesia's Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, emphasized that the Prestigious Local Government Appreciation event serves as a crucial balance to the ministry's oversight functions. Speaking at the Regional Sumatra Batch II event in Batam, Riau Islands, Karnavian explained that while the ministry provides supervision and directives, it is equally important to acknowledge and reward regions demonstrating excellent performance.

"Because all this time, we from the Ministry of Home Affairs have been pushing and pushing, pushing inflation, economic growth, and various other instructions. This is the balance in the form of rewards for outstanding regions," Karnawan stated. This second wave of awards is part of a larger initiative recognizing local governments for their achievements and innovations across six regions: Sumatra, Kalimantan, Maluku-Nusa Tenggara, Java-Bali, Sulawesi, and Papua.

The awards cover four key categories: Access and Quality of Health Services, Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Program, Waste Management and Green Environment, and Access to Education Services. Previous awards in Batch I focused on reducing unemployment, creative financing, inflation control, poverty alleviation, and stunting reduction. The Sumatra regional event specifically highlighted achievements in health, housing, waste management, and education.

Recipients for health services at the provincial level included Bangka Belitung and South Sumatra. At the district level, Bangka Barat, Belitung, and Bintan received awards. City-level winners for health included Pariaman, Padang Panjang, and Pangkalpinang. Similar awards were presented for housing, waste management, and education, with various provinces, districts, and cities across Sumatra being recognized. Karnavian urged regions that did not receive awards to focus on improving their performance.
