Home Insurance Sales Double After Major Fire in Krokstadelva

In the weeks following a significant fire in Krokstadelva, Norwegian insurance company Tryg has observed a dramatic increase in the purchase of home insurance policies. The company reported a doubling of sales for this type of insurance, alongside a persistent demand from existing customers seeking to enhance their coverage.

Ole Irgens, communications manager at Tryg, stated that while demand for various insurance types rose after the fire, home insurance saw a particularly notable surge. He added that many clients are contacting the company to review their current insurance situations. "Many want to confirm that they are adequately insured should something similar happen to them," Irgens noted, highlighting the fire's impact on public awareness regarding financial risks.

The devastating fire in mid-July destroyed 116 homes in Krokstadelva, a part of Drammen, leaving over 400 residents without shelter. Subsequent reports revealed that 16 affected households lacked home insurance, and two were without building insurance, underscoring the critical importance of adequate coverage.

This event has prompted a widespread reevaluation of insurance needs among residents, with many seeking reassurance and increased protection against potential future losses. The surge in interest reflects a heightened understanding of the financial vulnerability exposed by the disaster.
