Hometown hero: Orlando Gill honored in San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo, Paraguay – Goalkeeper Orlando Gill, a key figure for the Paraguayan national team in the 2026 North American World Cup, received an emotional tribute in his beloved hometown. The joint ceremony, organized by the Municipality of San Lorenzo and the local club Sportivo San Lorenzo, took place on the pitch of the Gunther Vogel stadium.

Neighbors, fans of the "Rayadito" club, and football enthusiasts gathered to honor the Paraguayan goalkeeper, who hails from the Reducto district. The event was filled with deep emotion as Gill reflected on his journey and expressed his gratitude.

"Thank you to everyone for this tribute, to all the people of San Lorenzo, I am more than happy, more than emotional. To all the members of the San Lorenzo board, the president, the vice-president, to everyone who accompanied me during my time at San Lorenzo, those who helped me, those who raised me. Also to Don Lucho, thanks to him I became a goalkeeper; he gave me the choice, it's all his fault," Gill said emotionally.

The homage recognized Gill's significant connection to Sportivo San Lorenzo, where he played from 2019 until early 2024. After starting in his hometown's youth football schools, he joined the club, signed his professional contract, and made his official debut in the Paraguayan Primera División in 2020. He currently plays for San Lorenzo de Almagro.
