Honda's New Generation HR-V to Achieve Up to 27km/L Fuel Economy on New Platform

Honda is set to launch a significantly redesigned HR-V, with Japanese media reporting a debut in January 2028. This new generation will ride on a newly developed modular platform, promising reduced manufacturing and maintenance costs. The crossover's dimensions are expected to increase to 4,350x1,770x1,580mm with a wheelbase of 2,640mm, offering a more spacious interior compared to the current model.

Visually, the new HR-V will adopt a fresh design language. Renderings suggest a continuous LED light strip integrating daytime running lights at the front, a horizontal grille, and a redesigned bumper for a more dynamic appearance. The rear will feature a more steeply raked windshield, contributing to a sleek, sporty stance. Honda will also offer diverse styling options like Sport Line and Trail Line.

Under the hood, the HR-V will be powered by a newly developed 1.5-liter e:HEV hybrid system. This setup pairs a four-cylinder engine producing 106 horsepower with dual electric motors delivering 131 horsepower. The system is anticipated to achieve an impressive average fuel economy of 27 km/L. Additionally, it will include Honda's S+ Shift technology, aiming to provide engaging driving dynamics akin to the Prelude.

The interior is set to receive a technological upgrade, featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system will integrate Honda Connect with built-in Google functionality. Higher-quality materials are also expected. The new HR-V will come standard with the updated Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver-assistance systems.
