Honda SH 125i Marmo Concept: A New Material for a 25th Anniversary Special

Honda is marking the 25th anniversary of its SH 125i scooter with the introduction of a striking concept model: the SH 125i Marmo. Unlike previous special editions that primarily featured cosmetic changes like new paint or decals, the Marmo concept stands out for its innovative use of materials. It incorporates a novel approach where the body's color is integrated directly into the plastic material during the molding process, a departure from the conventional painting methods used for all previous SH versions.

This groundbreaking technique not only simplifies the manufacturing process but also holds significant potential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions during vehicle production. Honda views this as a key step in its ongoing research to enhance the environmental friendliness of its future products. The Marmo concept's body panels are crafted from eco-friendly materials, signaling a commitment to sustainability.

Sebastiano Cerrone, Head of Product Innovation at Honda Italia Industriale, described the SH Marmo as a "pioneering idea" that elevates the reflection of production materials to a new level. He noted that the material allows for unique patterns and styles to be incorporated early in the manufacturing stages, offering greater creative freedom. "This material represents freedom and allows for unique motifs and styles to be incorporated right from the earliest stages of production," Cerrone stated.

Technically, the SH 125i Marmo concept remains largely similar to the standard SH 125i. It is powered by the eSP+ engine, a 124.8cc liquid-cooled unit producing approximately 12.8 horsepower and 11.9 Nm of torque. The scooter is equipped with a 4.2-inch TFT display, a dual-channel ABS system, and the Smart Key system, along with other familiar features of the latest SH generation. Honda has not yet announced plans for commercializing the SH 125i Marmo or a release date, but if produced, its price is unlikely to differ significantly from the current SH 125i due to the primary changes being material-based.
