Honduran President to Visit Dominican Republic's Haiti Border Wall

Honduran President Nasry 'Tito' Asfura is set to embark on a two-day official visit to the Dominican Republic, commencing Saturday. The trip's agenda includes a joint tour with Dominican President Luis Abinader of the border with neighboring Haiti, where a significant wall construction is underway.

The Dominican government is erecting the wall along its border with Haiti, with approximately 60 kilometers already completed. Construction began in February 2022. Authorities state the project aims to bolster national defense, curb undocumented migration, and combat drug and arms trafficking, as well as contraband.

Following the border tour, the two leaders are scheduled for a private meeting at the National Palace on Sunday. They will then address the media together. President Asfura is also expected to visit the mausoleum of the Dominican Republic's founding fathers before returning to Tegucigalpa.

The visit highlights the ongoing relationship and economic ties between the two Central American nations. Honduras primarily exports shrimp, agricultural goods, and manufactured products to the Dominican Republic, while receiving medicines, tobacco, cornmeal, textiles, and agro-industrial products in return.
