Honduran teacher faces judicial measures after slapping student in viral video

A teacher in Honduras, identified as Perla Díaz, has been subjected to judicial measures after a video surfaced showing her slapping a 15-year-old student. The incident occurred at the República de Cuba educational center in Morazán, Yoro department.

Díaz was recorded verbally and physically assaulting the student, who was seated at a desk. The video quickly went viral on social media, leading to her arrest by the National Police amidst widespread public condemnation and demands for her dismissal from the school. Her legal representative stated that Díaz is "sad and confused" about the incident and expressed remorse.

A judge has imposed precautionary measures on Díaz, requiring her to appear for future hearings and prohibiting her from leaving the country as she awaits further legal proceedings. The Ministry of Education issued a statement condemning all forms of violence against minors and reaffirming its commitment to protecting children and adolescents. The ministry stressed that while student indiscipline requires disciplinary action, it never justifies physical or psychological violence.

According to a parent, who had instructed her daughter to record the incident, this was not the first time Díaz had exhibited violent behavior in the classroom. The parent's decision to record the teacher stemmed from a lack of prior evidence when other students had attempted to report similar incidents.
