Honduras hosts 940 artists for 13th Central American Culture and Art Festival

Tegucigalpa, Honduras – A vibrant celebration of Central American culture and art has unfolded in Honduras with the opening of the 13th Interuniversity Festival of Culture and Art (FICCUA 2026). The event, hosted by the National Autonomous University of Honduras (Unah), has drawn 940 artists from twelve public universities across the region to Ciudad Universitaria in the capital.

For four days, the festival will fill eleven stages with a diverse program encompassing music, dance, theater, literature, and visual arts. FICCUA serves as a crucial platform for higher education students from across Central America, emphasizing the integral role of artistic and cultural expression in academic development. This year's event follows a successful iteration held in Panama in 2024.

During the opening ceremony, Unah Rector Odir Fernández Flores underscored the festival's significance. "We have created this space, young people, because it is yours and it is for you; it is for the students of Central America, the students of higher education in Central America," he stated. Fernández expressed gratitude to the participants for reminding everyone of the vital importance of culture and art in education, calling them "essential elements" in research, teaching, and university outreach.

The rector encouraged the young artists to embrace the regional gathering with pride, representing their respective universities and nations. Delegations from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama are participating, with the festival aiming to bolster Central American integration through artistic and cultural exchanges.
