Hong Seong-chan Wins Tennis Title, Dedicates Victory to Daughter

Hong Seong-chan secured the men's singles championship at the 5th Korea Tennis Association President's Cup, marking a significant personal milestone. The victory came in his final tournament as a member of the military sports team before his scheduled discharge on August 12th. He defeated teammate Jeong Yun-seong 2-0 (6:3, 6:4) in the final, concluding his military service with a title.

Looking ahead, Hong plans to compete internationally, starting with the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Canada in August. He will be joining the Dangjin City Hall team and will utilize his protected ranking of 147 to enter ATP Tour events. Hong expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating, "I am so happy to finish my last match as a soldier with a victory. It makes me feel that I have grown so much."

He also conveyed his newfound confidence for future international competitions. "Through this tournament, I have gained the confidence that I will be able to show better results and better performance to people in future international matches," Hong said. He extended his gratitude to Coach Jeong Seong-yun for his guidance during his military service and to training director Lee Min-jong for his support.

The victory held special significance for Hong as his 7-month-old daughter, Hong Dan-ah, was present to witness his win for the first time. "My daughter saw her dad win for the first time. I am truly happy to be able to show her that," he shared, emphasizing the emotional reward of the achievement. Meanwhile, Oh Jeong-ha claimed the women's singles title, her first of the season.
