Hörður on the coaching change: “Highly unusual”

Aron Pálmarsson’s move into coaching at FH is being presented as a major attraction for Icelandic handball. “Aron is an attraction, and having him coach FH in 2026 is a major asset for the league,” Hörður Magnússon said on Dagmál.

The handball season is about to begin again, with both divisions expected to offer an especially competitive campaign. Each will use a different format from recent years, adding another element to the new season.

Magnússon said Pálmarsson had previously told him he never intended to become a coach. After several training sessions as an assistant coach, however, Pálmarsson appears to have discovered that he enjoyed the role.

Pálmarsson will take over a team Magnússon described as being in good shape, while Sigursteinn Arndal will serve as his assistant. “This sounds extraordinary and shows how much of an FH man Steini is, to step aside but continue,” Magnússon said. “This is highly unusual.”
