Horror in Brazil: Man fatally stabs ex-partner in supermarket queue

A brutal crime has shaken São Paulo state in Brazil, where a man fatally stabbed his ex-partner while she was waiting in line at a supermarket. The shocking incident, captured on security cameras, occurred on Sunday afternoon in the municipality of Morro Grande. The suspect, identified as Lafayete Gonzaga da Silva, attacked his former girlfriend, Angelita Manoela Rodrigues, from behind with a knife.

The footage shows shoppers in the queue reacting with surprise and moving away as the attack unfolds. Some customers attempted to intervene by throwing items at the assailant, but he continued to stab Rodrigues until she collapsed from her injuries. The perpetrator then fled the scene immediately. Rodrigues was transported to Hospital Brasilandia but succumbed to her wounds.

According to reports, Da Silva was apprehended and taken to a police station. In his initial statement, he expressed remorse and blamed his ex-partner for "ruining his life." Rodrigues, 40, had been in a relationship with Da Silva for 10 years. Friends and former colleagues described their relationship as tumultuous and filled with violence.

One friend, Leila Lira, recounted that Rodrigues's life was "an inferno" and detailed past incidents of physical abuse, including being kicked out of their home and having her clothes burned. Lira also stated that Da Silva threatened anyone who tried to help Rodrigues, preventing her from seeking assistance. Rodrigues reportedly often went to work with visible injuries, and Da Silva was described as aggressive and dominant, frequently humiliating her in public.
