Hospital Employee Stabbed in Dhaka; Attack Linked to Procurement Work

An employee of the National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital was seriously injured after being stabbed by an unidentified assailant in Dhaka's Mohakhali area this afternoon. Sudip Chandra Dey, a data entry operator, was attacked around 3:55 pm near the TB Gate while riding a motorcycle with a colleague.

A masked man wearing a cap approached Dey and stabbed him as the motorcycle slowed. Hearing Dey's screams, locals rushed to his aid, but the attacker fled towards the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital. Dey, who told investigators he could not recognize his assailant, is now receiving treatment at the institute for his serious injuries.

Police and hospital authorities suspect the assault may be connected to procurement matters. Dey was involved in the institute's tender-related work. Professor Shahidur Rahman, the hospital's director, confirmed Dey's involvement in the tender processing team and stated that hospital authorities also believe the attack is linked to the tendering process. Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain is expected to visit Dey at the hospital.
