Hotman Paris resigns as lawyer for former Deputy Attorney General Febrie Adriansyah

Renowned lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea has announced his resignation as legal counsel for Febrie Adriansyah, the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes. Hotman cited health considerations for his decision, informing his client two days prior to the announcement made on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Hotman Paris had been appointed to represent Febrie Adriansyah on Friday, July 17, 2026. During his tenure, he accompanied Febrie during questioning and held a press conference to voice several objections concerning the legal cases that have entangled his client. Febrie is implicated in three cases: alleged corruption and money laundering in the PT Asabri case, corruption at PT Krakatau Steel, and graft involving coal management at PLN. He has been named a suspect in the PT Asabri case.

Among the objections raised by Hotman Paris was the assertion that Febrie Adriansyah never received S$5 million from Tan Kian, a witness in the Asabri investigation. Furthermore, Hotman claimed that 74 kilograms of gold and significant amounts of foreign and local currency found at Febrie's residence in Sentul, Bogor, did not belong to his client. Instead, Hotman maintained that these assets belonged to Don Ritto, a money laundering suspect in the PT Asabri case. He also affirmed that Febrie had no connection to the de'Clan Signature café in Cipete, which was searched by police.

Reports suggest Hotman Paris recently underwent surgery for a pinched nerve in Singapore. The resignation comes amidst ongoing investigations into Febrie Adriansyah's alleged involvement in corruption and money laundering schemes. The Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes has been handling these complex cases, which have drawn significant public and media attention.
