Housekeeper arrested for stealing mother's mementos and jewelry

A man in his 20s has been arrested for theft after stealing jewelry while working as a daily housekeeper. The suspect, identified only as 'A', was hired through the secondhand trading app 'Danggeun' to clean an apartment in Seoul's Nowon district.

Authorities say 'A' stole pearl necklaces, gold rings, and gold bracelets from the client's closet on two separate days. He then sold the stolen items to a gold shop in the same district. The victim discovered the theft on April 4th, noticing that the jewelry case in her closet was empty. Among the stolen items were mementos from her mother.

Initially, the victim stated she did not want to report the crime, asking for the return of her mother's belongings. However, after learning that 'A' had already sold the jewelry and that some items, like a gold bracelet, had been melted down and could not be restored, she filed a police report. The suspect reportedly told police he committed the crime due to personal debt. Police are continuing to investigate the exact scale of the damage and the full details of the incident.
