Houthi attacks injure 73 civilians in southern Saudi Arabia

Houthi attacks targeting several cities in southern Saudi Arabia injured 73 civilians, including women and children, according to Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.

Al-Maliki said the attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. He described the escalation and attempts to strike Saudi territory, national assets and infrastructure as dangerous, accusing the Houthi movement of pursuing a hostile and irresponsible approach.

He said the attacks deliberately targeted civilian facilities and national infrastructure, calling them a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a direct threat to citizens and residents. The Coalition’s Joint Forces Command, he added, would take all necessary operational measures to deter the Houthis, confront their activities and neutralize the threat to the Kingdom.

The Saudi Ministry of Energy separately reported attacks on several energy-sector facilities and infrastructure in the southern region. The strikes caused fires and temporarily disrupted some operations. Authorities began dealing with the affected facilities and taking necessary measures, the ministry said.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and said the Kingdom would not tolerate strikes against its territory or resources. It said Saudi Arabia reserved the right to take measures to defend its sovereignty and security, while calling on the Houthi movement to end escalation and threats to maritime security. The ministry also warned against attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
