Houthis Attack Yemen's Mocha Port for Fourth Day With Missiles

Yemen's port of Mocha, controlled by the internationally recognized government, faced another missile attack from Houthi rebels on Wednesday. This marks the fourth consecutive day of assaults on the vital Red Sea port. Two ballistic missiles reportedly struck the pier, causing damage, though the full extent and any potential casualties are still under evaluation, according to Waddah al Dubaish, a spokesperson for the Joint Forces.

Military sources indicated the missiles were launched from Houthi-controlled territories. The rebels have not yet commented on the latest strikes. Mocha, a historically significant port city in the Taiz province, holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the Bab al Mandeb strait, a key maritime chokepoint connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

The port has been subjected to intense Houthi bombardment in recent days. An attack on Sunday resulted in extensive damage and reportedly caused about a dozen deaths, including civilians. The ongoing escalation raises concerns about the fragile truce in Yemen, which has largely held since 2022. UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has warned that the war, which began in 2014, is at its greatest risk of reignition since that truce.
