Russian attack in Kherson kills two, injures 14; widespread drone strikes reported across Ukraine

Russian forces launched a significant attack on Ukraine's Kherson region over the past 24 hours, employing drones and artillery, which resulted in at least two fatalities and 14 injuries. The assault also inflicted considerable damage on civilian infrastructure, with reports indicating that five apartment buildings, 27 private homes, a community center, shops, a cellular communication tower, minibuses, and automobiles were affected.

According to Oleksandr Prokundin, head of the Regional Military Administration, the information was shared via Facebook. The Ukrainian Air Force detailed the broader scope of the attacks, stating that since the evening of August 11, Russia had deployed a variety of aerial assets. These included one Iskander-M ballistic missile, one Kh-31P anti-radiation missile, Kh-35 air-to-surface missiles, and 138 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of different types across multiple locations in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian defense forces reported a high rate of success in countering the drone threat, intercepting or blocking 112 of the 138 drones. "As of 09:00, air defense forces had shot down or blocked 112 enemy drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, and other types in the north, south, and east of the country. Enemy air strikes were recorded in 16 locations, and wreckage from downed aircraft fell in two places," the Air Force stated on Telegram. The total number of missiles launched was not specified, nor was it confirmed if any missiles were successfully intercepted.
