Houthis claim drone attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure

Yemen's Houthi rebels announced on Monday that they conducted drone attacks against Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure, claiming the operation was a response to alleged Saudi drone incursions into Yemeni airspace. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the strikes hit "several sensitive targets and facilities involved in the supply and transport of oil from eastern Saudi Arabia to Yanbu."

Saudi Arabia has not yet officially commented on the Houthi claims regarding the oil infrastructure attacks. However, the Saudi Ministry of Defense issued a statement on social media indicating that the Kingdom intercepted several drones entering its territory from Iraq. The ministry characterized these as "terrorist attempts launched from Iraqi territory and carried out by terrorist militias supported by Iran."

The targeted facilities, according to the Saudi statement, were oil installations located in the eastern regions of the country and the capital, Riyadh. Saudi Arabia has formally requested that Iraq take necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launchpad for such attacks, according to Saudi television.

Notably, pro-Iranian armed groups based in Iraq have not claimed responsibility for any attacks within Iraq or the broader region since tensions between the United States and Iran escalated earlier this month.
