US and Iran reportedly halt attacks amid talks with Omani representatives in Tehran

The United States and Iran have reportedly ceased their mutual aerial attacks in the Middle East over the past two days, according to media reports citing informed regional sources. This de-escalation appears to be linked to ongoing negotiations in Tehran involving an Omani delegation, focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials described the discussions with their Omani counterparts as constructive. One official told CBS News that talks regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for oil and gas transport, are progressing positively. This follows a period of intensified conflict, with the U.S. targeting Iranian coastal areas and infrastructure for nearly two weeks.

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung stated that President Trump consistently favors diplomatic solutions but reserves all options if Iran continues its activities in the Strait of Hormuz or against allies. He advised Iran to pursue a negotiated agreement, warning of consequences otherwise.

Following the U.S. halt in attacks, Iran also suspended its strikes against American allies, as confirmed by an Iranian military spokesperson. Previously, Tehran had conducted counterattacks in countries hosting U.S. forces, including an incident in Jordan that resulted in at least three deaths. The conflict's recent escalation began in late February with U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, though a prior truce and memorandum of understanding had temporarily eased tensions.
