How Kaduna-Zaria crash claimed ABU law lecturer’s life

Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji, a respected Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, tragically died in a road accident on Saturday morning. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. at Dumbin Rauga along the busy Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.

It is with deep sorrow that I confirm the death of our colleague and friend, Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji. He died in a road accident this morning at about 9 a.m. at Dumbin Rauga on the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.

Dr. Bebeji, 45, was a prominent figure in legal education. He served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Commercial Law, held the position of Assistant Dean in the Faculty of Law, and coordinated the ABU Law Clinic. In this role, he was a champion of clinical legal education and worked to improve access to justice for underserved communities. His dedication, scholarship, and mentorship were widely recognized and appreciated within the university and the broader legal profession.

Originally from Bebeji Local Government Area in Kano State, Dr. Bebeji spent his formative years in Tudun Wada, Kaduna. His funeral took place on Saturday at Kwanar Chanchangi Cemetery in Kaduna, following Islamic rites. He is survived by his wife and two children. Colleagues remembered him as a brilliant scholar and a humble man deeply devoted to teaching, mentoring young lawyers, and serving humanity. His passing is considered a profound loss to ABU and the legal community.
