The cost of filling a car's gasoline tank in Argentina has become a significant variable expense for drivers. Prices vary based on the type of fuel, tank size, and kilometers driven, but a quick reference point is the amount needed to fill the tank completely.

As of August 2026, a liter of regular gasoline at YPF stations in Buenos Aires costs 2,045 Argentine pesos, while premium gasoline is priced at 2,258 pesos. Diesel fuel is 2,116 pesos per liter. Consequently, filling a 40-liter tank with regular gasoline requires 81,800 pesos, and a 50-liter tank costs 102,250 pesos.

For vehicles using premium gasoline, these same volumes amount to 90,320 pesos for a 40-liter tank and 112,900 pesos for a 50-liter tank. Popular models like the Fiat Cronos, with a 48-liter tank, would cost 98,160 pesos to fill with regular gasoline, or 108,384 pesos with premium. The Volkswagen Gol Trend, with a 55-liter tank, requires 112,475 pesos for regular gasoline and 124,190 pesos for premium.

Larger vehicles, such as the Toyota Hilux pickup with an 80-liter diesel tank, incur higher costs. Filling this tank at 2,116 pesos per liter for diesel amounts to 169,280 pesos. This higher cost is attributed to the larger tank capacity needed for extended range and work purposes, in addition to the fuel price itself.

Drivers are advised to maintain stable speeds, avoid abrupt acceleration and braking, and regularly check tire pressure to reduce fuel consumption. Using air conditioning and driving with windows open at high speeds also increases fuel demand.
