How to Apply for a Mexican Passport for the First Time in New York

Mexican citizens residing in New York can now apply for their first Mexican passport through the consulate. The process requires applicants to schedule an appointment using the MiConsulado platform and present original documents that verify both their nationality and identity. This service aims to streamline passport applications for the Mexican community in the region.

For adults, proof of Mexican nationality can be established through documents such as a birth certificate, certificate or declaration of nationality, letter of naturalization, or a high-security consular registration card issued after May 13, 2005. Additionally, official identification with a photograph is necessary to confirm identity. Personal information on all submitted documents must match precisely, and no photographs or copies are needed as images are captured digitally during the appointment.

The procedure for minors involves similar requirements for proving nationality and identity. Crucially, minors must be accompanied by both parents, who are required to present their own official identification. Both parents must also provide their authorization through the OP-7 form. If one parent is unable to attend in person, arrangements can be made through the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs or another Mexican consulate.
