Hsinchu City Appoints New Spokesperson Amid Food Safety Scandal

Hsinchu City Mayor Kao Hung-an has appointed Yang Chun-tzu, a former education bureau chief from Hsinchu County, as the new spokesperson for the Hsinchu City Government, effective August 3.

The move comes as the city government faces criticism and a damaged image following a food safety scandal involving formaldehyde found in rice flour. Yang, who was considered a trusted aide to Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke, is expected to bolster the city's external communications and media relations.

Yang Chun-tzu holds a doctoral degree and has prior experience in the corporate sector as a deputy manager and sales manager. She also served as a parent-teacher association president and chairperson of the National Parents' Association before her tenure as Hsinchu County's Education Bureau Director. The city government expressed confidence that her background in educational administration and public governance will enhance interactions with citizens and the media.

Yang stated that the spokesperson role is a crucial bridge of trust between the city government and its residents. She pledged to ensure timely and comprehensive explanations of policies and major issues to the public and to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of press releases.

Yang's appointment is seen by some as a strategic move by Mayor Kao to address the recent public relations challenges.
