Hsinchu City's Fourth Public Daycare to Open by Year-End, Aiming for January Enrollment

Hsinchu City is expanding its public childcare services with the upcoming launch of the Guandong Public Daycare Center. The facility, located on the second floor of the Guandong Market Complex, is the city's fourth public daycare and its largest to date. It is also the first to integrate Hakka cultural elements and offer on-site temporary childcare services.

Mayor Kao Hung-an visited the site to inspect the interior renovation, which is expected to be completed in September. Following renovations, the center will undergo licensing procedures before its projected December opening. Initially, it will provide temporary drop-in care for up to 10 children daily. Once fully operational, it will accommodate 50 infants and toddlers aged 0-2 in five classrooms, substantially increasing childcare availability in the eastern district.

After the December opening, it will prioritize 'on-site temporary care services,' which can provide temporary care for 10 children daily in one class. After formal enrollment begins, it can accommodate 50 infants and toddlers aged 0-2 in four classes, significantly increasing the childcare service capacity in Hsinchu City's eastern district and meeting the temporary childcare needs of parenting families.

The center is slated to begin regular enrollment in January, with monthly fees set at NT$12,000, excluding registration and food costs. After factoring in city and national subsidies, parents can expect to pay between NT$2,500 and NT$4,500 per month, depending on the child's birth order. This initiative is part of a broader plan by the city government to establish more public daycare centers across its three administrative districts. Two other centers are under construction, with one expected to open in March and another by the end of 2028. Seven more are in the planning stages.

After the official enrollment in January, parents' monthly childcare fees will be NT$12,000, with no registration or food fees. Depending on the child's birth order, parents can receive childcare subsidies of NT$7,000 to NT$9,000. After the city government adds a NT$500 subsidy, the monthly cost will be only NT$2,500 to NT$4,500.
