During promotional activities, Hathaway humorously declared her preference for facing the formidable Miranda Priestly from "The Devil Wears Prada" over a dinosaur encounter. "Dealing with Miranda, at least there would be a good outcome in the end; you would become more tasteful, better looking," she explained. "But if I encountered dinosaurs, I would completely panic, with no time to care about my image!"

This collaboration with director David Robert Mitchell was a long-held ambition for Hathaway, who was captivated by his unique narrative style after seeing his 2014 film "It Follows." She had her agent arrange a meeting, which led to a three-hour conversation. Despite waiting eight years for the opportunity, Hathaway felt the "destiny" of their collaboration finally realized when she received the script.

However, the script presented a world without electricity or running water, populated by roaming dinosaurs. Hathaway was drawn not just to the disaster spectacle, but to the story's core: a fractured family learning to trust, rely on, and cherish each other during the end-of-the-world crisis. "The Idea of You" thus balances its thrilling disaster scenes with a focus on familial bonds and courage.
