Hsinchu Hakka Lion Dance Team Wins Taipei Championship with Dazzling High-Platform Backflips

The Hsinchu Hakka Lion Dance Association has secured the top honor at the Taipei Mayor's Cup Lion Dance Championship. A team of 12 young performers, aged 15 to 30, represented the association, showcasing their exceptional skills and teamwork. Their performance captivated the audience, particularly with a high-difficulty high-platform backflip, earning them first place in the university and social group category for Hakka lions.

The team's members are between 15 and 30 years old and competed with innovative thinking that differs from the past.

County Magistrate Yang Wen-ko publicly commended the team, highlighting their dedication to preserving and promoting Hakka Fang Kou lion dance techniques since the association's establishment in 1990. He praised their deep connection to local culture and their role as exemplars in safeguarding and advancing Hsinchu County's cultural heritage.

The association's president, Cheng Hsiang-hao, also a representative committee member for Hakka regions at the Hakka Affairs Council, stated that the team incorporated innovative elements into their performance. While retaining traditional martial arts segments like "biting the grass mat" and "sleeping lion," they introduced the daring high-platform backflip, which garnered significant applause.
