Hualien motorcyclist critically injured after running red light, colliding with unlicensed driver

A serious collision in Hualien City has left a 66-year-old motorcyclist in intensive care after she allegedly ran a red light and was struck by a car. The incident occurred at the intersection of Fuhou Road and Jieshou 5th Street.

The motorcyclist, identified by the surname Jiang, was reportedly not paying attention to the traffic signal. She collided with a white car driven by a 33-year-old woman, identified as Wu, who was traveling without a valid license. The impact was severe, throwing Jiang from her vehicle and causing her to lose consciousness at the scene.

Jiang suffered critical injuries, including a torn wound on the back of her head, spinal damage, multiple fractured ribs, and a suspected pelvic fracture. She was rushed to the hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit, though her vital signs are reported as stable. Police are reviewing surveillance footage to determine the precise fault and responsibility for the accident.

Adding to the circumstances, the driver of the car, Wu, reportedly became startled after the collision and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The car then slid forward approximately 30 meters. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol. Police are urging all road users to exercise caution, reduce speed at intersections, and practice defensive driving to prevent future accidents.
