Hualien's 'Fuyijinghua' Building Demolition Begins, Road Closures in Effect

The 'Fuyijinghua' residential building in Hualien City, Taiwan, which was marked as a red-tagged unsafe structure following the April 3 earthquake, is now undergoing demolition. The complex demolition project, deemed difficult due to interconnected basements, is fully funded by the central government with a budget of 125 million New Taiwan dollars.

Construction began on May 27, and the project is now entering its core phase. To ensure safety and facilitate the work, the Hualien County Government has announced a 24-hour road closure. This closure will be in effect from July 30 until November 20, spanning approximately four months. Only authorized construction vehicles, emergency services, and residents with special permits will be allowed access to the affected areas.

The closure will impact several streets, including sections of Zhonghe Street, Rongzheng Street, Rongzheng Street Lane 125, and Zhonghua Road Lane 333. The county government has stated that traffic control measures, including increased police presence, will be implemented, especially during peak summer travel times. Residents are advised to avoid the construction zone during this period.

The Hualien County Government has managed 90 red-tagged buildings since the earthquake, with 17 requiring immediate demolition. The 'Fuyijinghua' building, comprising six 12-story structures with 152 units, is one of the most significant demolition projects undertaken with central government support.
