Hugo Javier case: Judicial ultimatum for Miguel Robles to surrender to justice

A Paraguayan court has formally ordered Miguel Ángel Robles Ibarra to surrender to authorities within five days, initiating the execution of his 10-year prison sentence. The order comes after his conviction for embezzlement and other offenses linked to the diversion of state funds.

The Specialized Criminal Enforcement Court No. 3 issued the ultimatum, demanding Robles Ibarra present himself to the justice system or enter an authorized penitentiary. Failure to comply will trigger the execution of a substantial real estate bail bond, valued at over 5 billion Paraguayan guaraníes (approximately $700,000 USD), which he had previously used to secure his conditional release.

Robles Ibarra was prosecuted alongside former Central governor Hugo Javier González Alegre in a case investigating the misuse of state funds. While González Alegre is already serving his sentence, Robles Ibarra had managed to revoke his initial pretrial detention in July 2025 by posting the significant collateral. The court's current action aims to enforce the final sentence handed down in January 2025.

The properties at risk of seizure and auction include a business in Ñemby valued at over 2.1 billion guaraníes, assets in Belén (Concepción) belonging to Víctor Alfonso Robles worth 1.24 billion guaraníes, and a property in Lambaré valued at 1.36 billion guaraníes. The court has notified all guarantors of Robles Ibarra's situation, giving them the same five-day period to present him or provide a valid justification for his absence.
