Human graphic 2026 to be more 'wow' with 1,500 students involved, 16 songs to be performed

Putrajaya is gearing up for a spectacular "human graphic" performance as part of Malaysia's 69th National Day celebrations on August 31. This year's event at Dataran Putrajaya promises a more "wow" factor, featuring 1,500 students from 36 schools under the Selangor State Education Department.

Ithnin Mahadi, Director of the Sports, Co-curriculum, and Arts Division at the Ministry of Education, explained that rehearsals began in July, with students initially training at their respective schools before converging for final preparations. The performance will comprise 16 songs, blending patriotic tunes with contemporary Gen Z music, ethnic melodies, and regional songs. This diverse musical selection aims to resonate with a broad audience.

Key to this year's "human graphic" are three main innovations. Firstly, the varied musical genres, including modern hits appealing to Gen Z, traditional folk songs, and others. Secondly, the integration of various props and instruments such as kompang and tamborin, alongside displays of "Malaysia MADANI" and ethnic graphics representing Malaysia's diverse cultures. These elements are designed to create a visually and aurally engaging spectacle.

Organizing such a large-scale event presents significant logistical challenges. Mahadi highlighted the importance of student welfare, including provisions for food, drinks, and transportation, given the months-long preparation involving numerous schools. The extensive movement of students and the duration of the program also contribute to substantial costs. To mitigate the impact of the hot weather, rehearsals are scheduled for early mornings, with breaks taken around 11 a.m. to minimize prolonged exposure to the sun.
