Human trafficking ring busted in Panama; three victims rescued

Panamanian authorities have dismantled a human trafficking ring in Guararé, Los Santos province, through an operation dubbed "Operación Corazón Azul." A man and a woman were apprehended on suspicion of involvement in the crime against humanity, specifically for trafficking individuals for sexual exploitation and prostitution.

The joint operation involved the National Police, the Public Ministry, Interpol Panama, the National Migration Service, and the international organization OUR Rescue. During the operation, three Panamanian victims were successfully rescued. Authorities also seized cash, documents, and other evidence pertinent to the ongoing investigation.

Initial investigations suggest the criminal group targeted and exploited both Panamanian and Colombian women. The timing of the operation, just before the International Day Against Human Trafficking on July 30, underscores the authorities' commitment to combating this pervasive crime and protecting vulnerable individuals.

Further investigations are underway to identify any other potential members of this alleged criminal network. The Public Ministry has stated that the inquiry continues to ensure all involved parties are brought to justice.
