Hundreds Gather as Charlie Chaplin Impersonators Attempt World Record in Switzerland

More than 400 individuals donned black bowler hats, toothbrush mustaches, and canes in Switzerland, attempting to set a new world record for the largest gathering of Charlie Chaplin impersonators. The event took place at the Chaplin museum in Corsier-sur-Vevey, one of the silent film star's former residences.

The assembly was timed to coincide with the museum's 10th anniversary. Ultimately, 429 impersonators participated, falling short of the existing world record of 662, which was set in 2017. Despite not breaking the record, the participants formed the number '10' on a lawn in front of the museum to mark the anniversary.

Among the attendees was 36-year-old Frenchman Anthony Champeil, who frequently impersonates Chaplin on stage. He expressed his joy, stating, "I am the happiest man in the world." Champeil also reflected on Chaplin's philosophy, suggesting the icon would have encouraged people to maintain their childlike playfulness and would have enjoyed seeing "so many big children gathered here today."
