Hundreds of Sidoarjo Islamic boarding-school students hospitalized after suspected food poisoning

At least 293 students from Manbaul Hikam Islamic boarding school in Putat village, Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo, were taken to hospitals after allegedly falling ill following a Free Nutritious Meals program delivery.

The symptoms reportedly began after students ate the meals at lunchtime on Monday, September 1, 2026. Some students first felt unwell during or after prayers. By around 4 p.m., reports of dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and breathing difficulties had emerged, with the number of students affected rising from dozens to hundreds.

The school received about 1,000 meal portions from the Kalitengah SPPG meal preparation unit for students at Manbaul Hikam’s Islamic senior and junior secondary schools. School administrators contacted medical facilities as more students developed similar symptoms.

The students were taken to several hospitals, including Sidoarjo Regional Hospital, Siti Hajar Hospital, Delta Surya Hospital and Pusura Candi-Sidoarjo Hospital.
