Hundreds of tourists stranded on Cu Lao Cham island safely brought ashore

Around 300 tourists, predominantly international visitors, have been safely returned to the mainland from Cu Lao Cham island after being stranded for nearly a day due to rough seas. Local authorities in Tan Hiep commune, Da Nang, coordinated with relevant agencies and travel companies to bring the tourists ashore on July 17, 2026.

The group had been unable to depart the island as scheduled because of adverse weather conditions. A forecast issued on July 15 predicted moderate seas with gusts, prompting the Da Nang Maritime Port Authority to temporarily suspend the operation of certain types of vessels. This suspension left hundreds of tourists, many with tight travel schedules, unable to return home.

As weather conditions improved on the morning of July 17, local authorities swiftly organized a rescue plan. High-speed boats from travel companies were mobilized to ferry the tourists back to the mainland in multiple trips, with safety being a top priority. The entire operation was closely monitored by authorities throughout the journey.

By the afternoon of July 17, all 300 tourists had safely arrived at the port without any reported incidents. Local authorities stated they will continue to monitor weather developments and collaborate with relevant units to adjust maritime transport operations, ensuring the safety of residents and tourists while minimizing disruption to tourism activities on the Cu Lao Cham route.
