Hyundai Engineering Completes 'Gongpyeong 15 & 16 District' Office Complex, Highlighting Historical Value

Hyundai Engineering has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the "Gongpyeong 15 & 16 District" office complex, a prime development in Seoul's central business district. This project stands out not only for its modern architectural design but also for its unique integration of historical significance, particularly the discovery of approximately 1,600 pieces of "Hunminjeongeum Metal Movable Type" during the excavation phase.

This development is the first project under Seoul's "Urban and Architecture Innovation Plan," a collaborative effort between public and private sectors. It uniquely reflects the area's rich history, spanning from the early Joseon Dynasty to modern times. Hyundai Engineering's approach prioritized not just preserving historical sites but actively incorporating them into the development. A notable feature is the "Urban Ruins Exhibition Hall" located in the basement, which connects to the open spaces of the lower floors, allowing citizens to engage with the unearthed heritage.

The Gongpyeong 15 & 16 District is the first office facility we have introduced in the CBD, a project where historical value and modern architecture harmonize.

Beyond its historical and architectural merits, the project also boasts impressive execution. The approximately 360 billion won (roughly $260 million USD) project was completed in about 40 months, significantly ahead of the original 44-month schedule. Hyundai Engineering also achieved a "zero major accidents" safety record and received the "Excellent Case Award for Construction Site Video Recording Management" from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, highlighting its commitment to quality and safety.
