Hyundai's New Generation Tucson Interior Revealed During Extreme Testing

Spy shots from extreme weather testing in Austria have provided a clear look at the interior of the upcoming Hyundai Tucson, revealing significant updates to its cabin design and technology. The test vehicle experienced a tire blowout during a high-stress downhill braking test while towing a trailer, suggesting potential areas for improvement in the braking system. However, the interior reveals are more comprehensive.

Inside, the new Tucson features a prominent 17-inch touchscreen display centrally mounted on the dashboard, complemented by physical buttons integrated below for essential controls. The digital instrument cluster has been substantially downsized, paired with a newly designed steering wheel that emphasizes physical button layouts and includes electric adjustment. Vertical air vents add a touch of luxury to the sides, while the gear selector has been relocated to a stalk behind the steering wheel, freeing up space on the center console.

The large 17-inch screen is expected to adopt a user interface similar to a smartphone, with a persistent bar for primary vehicle shortcuts. It will support multi-window customization and feature an "Gleo AI" intelligent voice assistant for enhanced safety and convenience. The exterior design of the redesigned Tucson is also noted to adopt a more squared-off and robust silhouette, reminiscent of the Santa Fe, with vertical lighting elements at the front and rear echoing the vehicle's boxy aesthetic.

Significantly, the next-generation Hyundai Tucson is anticipated to discontinue its purely internal combustion engine options. It will exclusively feature the newly developed TMED-II hybrid system, likely based on a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine producing an estimated 275 horsepower and 38.7 kg-m of torque. A Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant is also planned, offering an estimated pure electric range of 100 kilometers.
