IBB Club to Host 2026 All Africa Women’s Golf Championship

Abuja will become the meeting point for African women’s golf when the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy arrives at the IBB International Golf and Country Club from November 4 to 6.

Dr Lami Ahmed, president of the Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria, described the biennial championship as the continent’s premier women’s amateur team event. She compared it to the Africa Cup of Nations because golfers compete for their countries rather than as individuals.

The three-day tournament will bring together female amateur golfers, national teams, officials, supporters and delegates from across Africa. Each country will field three players and a captain. In the gross event, the best two scores from each player each day will count toward the country’s cumulative total, while the scores will also contribute to the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

The LGAN projects a budget of about 547 million naira. It plans to raise the money through financial and in-kind support from government institutions, businesses, development partners and individuals. The funds will cover accommodation for delegations from about 30 countries at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, along with other event logistics.

We want every participating country to arrive in Nigeria and feel welcomed from the moment they enter Abuja until the moment they depart,” Ahmed said. She added that the championship could promote Nigeria as a destination for sport, culture, tourism, women and youth development, investment and continental cooperation.
