PSG Reject Man City’s Bid for Super Falcons’ Echegini

Manchester City’s pursuit of Nigerian midfielder Jennifer Echegini has stalled after Paris Saint-Germain rejected several offers for the 25-year-old.

Echegini remains a key player for PSG, according to sources at the French club, which is unwilling to sell her with a year left on her contract. The Nigerian international spent most of her youth career in England and joined PSG two years ago after one season at Juventus.

She scored the winning goal in last year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, helping Nigeria secure a record-extending 10th title. City are working against Thursday’s transfer deadline, which comes before the start of the Women’s Super League season this weekend.

The club’s interest follows news that Vivianne Miedema, who plays in midfield and attack, will miss the beginning of the season with a knee injury. PSG also faced Eintracht Frankfurt in a Women’s Champions League third-round qualifying tie.

Arsenal have agreed terms to sign France defender Elisa de Almeida from PSG, with the fee reportedly around £550,000. She is expected to move before the deadline.
