The Dallas Stars have secured forward Jason Robertson with a one-year contract worth $12 million, approximately 10.5 million euros. The announcement was made early Wednesday morning, Finnish time. Robertson, 27, became a restricted free agent on July 1 and had opted for arbitration, which will now be unnecessary. His contract situation has been a subject of much discussion in recent months, with speculation mounting that Dallas might be unwilling or unable to meet his salary demands. This new deal is considered a temporary measure. Robertson becomes eligible to sign a contract extension with the Stars as early as January 1. Alternatively, Dallas retains the option to trade him at some point during the upcoming season. If Robertson does not have a contract by July of next year, he will become an unrestricted free agent. Earlier in June, Robertson reportedly rejected a trade that would have sent him to Seattle, where he would have signed an eight-year deal worth $15 million annually. Last season, Robertson was the Dallas Stars' leading scorer, tallying 96 points (54 goals, 51 assists) in 82 games. Based on points per game, Robertson's average of 1.17 placed him as the second most effective player on the Stars, narrowly behind Mikko Rantanen, who averaged 1.20 points per game.
