Ice Hockey | HIFK's Sebastian Repo Injured Again – Sports Director Janne Laukkanen Comments

Helsinki IFK (HIFK) is facing another injury setback as star forward Sebastian Repo has been sidelined before the league season even begins. This follows a season plagued by injuries last year, and the new season is off to a similarly difficult start.

Janne Laukkanen, HIFK's new sports director, confirmed Repo's injury but declined to comment on its seriousness, stating that further examinations are needed. "Additional studies have had to be done. We are waiting for them, and then we will inform about the matter and the estimated recovery time," Laukkanen announced.

Repo, a high-profile acquisition from Lukko last season, had his previous season significantly hampered by injuries, managing to play only 15 regular-season games. Besides Repo, a few other HIFK players have been absent from training, though Laukkanen described these as "minor basic things." He added, "But we are trying in one way or another to get everyone ready for the opening of the regular season – except Repo."

Laukkanen, who previously worked at Pelicans, joined HIFK this season and has already signed new Canadian center Jake Leschyshyn. Regarding Repo's injury, Laukkanen indicated that while player numbers are sufficient, the loss of a high-profile player is being considered. "We are now calmly assessing the situation, thinking, and trying to make decisions when the time is right," he said, noting that the transfer window remains open until February 15.
