Iceland University's Oktoberfest promises lively student celebration

Iceland University's annual Oktoberfest is set to return for its 22nd iteration, promising a vibrant celebration for students and the public alike. Scheduled from September 10 to 12 in Vatnsmýrin, the festival is a cornerstone of the university's social calendar, marking the beginning of the academic year.

This year's event aims to elevate the experience with a diverse lineup of performers. Notably, Oktoberfest SHÍ will host two international artists for the first time: the Norwegian music trio The Bausa, known for their hit "Magnetic," and British-Nigerian rapper Fimiguerrero, popular for tracks like "Tartan" and "5AM." This expansion into international acts follows the successful debut of a foreign artist, Dizzee Rascal, last year.

Organizers are enthusiastic about the upcoming festival. "We in the Oktoberfest team are incredibly excited for this year. It is a stated goal of ours to make the festival experience more enjoyable each year," said Skarphéðinn Finnbogason, one of the event's organizers. The festival is designed to bring together students from various departments and schools, fostering a renewed sense of community after the summer break.

While primarily geared towards students, Oktoberfest is open to all individuals aged 20 and older. The three-day event will feature a wide array of musical acts, both local and international, alongside various entertainment options and a diverse selection of food trucks. The organizers anticipate a lively atmosphere, continuing the tradition of Oktoberfest as a major social gathering.

The festival will take place in Vatnsmýrin, located in front of the University of Iceland. Photos from previous years, including Oktoberfest 2025, showcase the high energy and festive spirit that attendees can expect. The event continues to be a highlight for the university community, blending music, entertainment, and social interaction.
