Icelandic police arrest five after firearm incident at festival

A swift police operation in Akureyri, Iceland, led to the arrest of five men after authorities received a report of an individual pointing a firearm at another person. The incident prompted a significant response, including the deployment of the special forces unit.

According to Kolbrún Björg Jónsdóttir, an assistant chief superintendent with the North-East Iceland Police, the alert came shortly after noon. The police quickly mobilized, receiving assistance from the special forces to apprehend the suspects. A subsequent search of two vehicles associated with the men resulted in the discovery of two firearms.

An official from the Akureyri police stated that officers had received information suggesting firearms might be present in the vehicles, prompting them to take action. The operation was conducted in a manner that ensured no danger was posed to attendees of a nearby festival.

This incident follows a separate weapons violation at the same festival the previous day, where an individual was found with a bladed weapon and subsequently arrested. Authorities are continuing to manage the situation, ensuring public safety amidst these events.
