Icelandic Police Seize 106kg of Cocaine, Withhold Disposal Details

Icelandic authorities have confiscated a substantial amount of cocaine, seizing 106 kilograms that arrived via a cargo ship from South America. This seizure is part of two of the largest drug cases in Iceland's history, with a total of 177 kilograms of narcotics intercepted.

Nine individuals have been taken into custody in connection with these operations. The police are being tight-lipped about the specifics of the drug disposal process, which involves multiple state agencies. This discretion stems from the hazardous nature of the chemicals involved in processing the drugs and the significant value of the confiscated substances.

Thórir Ingvarsson, assistant chief superintendent with the Capital Area Police, stated that while large quantities of seized drugs are destroyed annually, the exact methods are kept confidential. He explained that the process involves hazardous chemicals that pose risks to personnel. "As a matter of course, we want people to know as little as possible about how we do this," Ingvarsson said, also noting the considerable potential value of the seized narcotics.

Ingvarsson confirmed that drug disposal occurs frequently throughout the year, often surprising people with the sheer volume. He assured that the process, whether for small or large quantities, remains consistent and has been functioning effectively. The police expressed pride in the efficiency and smoothness of their drug destruction operations.
