Icelandic Scout Jamboree Opens with 2,000 Attendees in Akureyri

Akureyri, Iceland, buzzed with excitement as the national scout jamboree officially opened with a grand ceremony. Nearly 2,000 participants gathered for the event, which marks the beginning of a week filled with diverse activities.

Halldóra Aðalheiður Ólafsdóttir, marketing manager for the Icelandic Scout and Guide Association, described the opening as "very entertaining." She highlighted the significant turnout, noting the presence of close to 2,000 people on site.

The jamboree's program is packed with engaging events designed to entertain and challenge scouts. Offerings include LARP fencing, mountain hikes, a program in Akureyri, a Northern Lights disco, a cocoa competition, and a world championship in scout sports. Preparations for this major gathering have been ongoing for approximately a year, fostering considerable anticipation among attendees.

The event, which commenced today, will conclude next Sunday, July 26. The sunny weather provided a pleasant backdrop for the opening festivities, adding to the overall positive atmosphere.
