Igor Lichnovsky Set for Imminent Return to Universidad de Chile

Universidad de Chile is set to sign defender Igor Lichnovsky, marking his return to the club where he began his career 12 years ago. The agreement comes just one day before the transfer window closes. Lichnovsky, 32, arrives as a free agent and will sign a contract for one and a half years. His return to Chilean football follows an extensive period playing abroad. He originally left Universidad de Chile in 2014 to join FC Porto in Portugal. His subsequent career included stints with Sporting Gijón, Real Valladolid, Necaxa, Cruz Azul, Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, Tigres UANL, América, and Fatih Karagümrük in Turkey. Lichnovsky himself hinted at his imminent signing through an Instagram story, posting a video of himself with a suitcase and the Universidad de Chile jersey. He accompanied the post with a heartfelt message referencing his formative years at the club. Upon finalizing his contract, Lichnovsky will become the third player to join Universidad de Chile in the current winter transfer window, following Gonzalo Reyna and Tobías Reinhart. The team is currently second in the Liga de Primera standings with 33 points, trailing leaders Colo Colo by 12 points. They are scheduled to play Deportes Limache on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
